New Vessel Joins Mures Fishing Fleet
By Bob Lister
On 1 May 2004 around 300 happy people gathered at Taylor Brothers slipyard near Prince of Wales Bay in the River Derwent to witness the successful launch of a new fishing vessel for Mures Fishing. The launch of the 22.8 m "Diana" is a significant addition to the Tasmanian commercial fishing fleet which already includes the "Kiella" which has been operated by Mures Fishing for many years.
The builders of this new fishing vessel were Mures Fishing of which a proud Will Mure is the sole Director. Will employed a sub contractor in Bill Francis to oversee the construction of the vessel.
"Diana" was launched on schedule exactly 12 months to the day from when construction commenced.
The Minister for Primary Industries and Water Hon Steven Kons addressed the gathering before the launch and Father John Goodwin from Hutchins School blessed the boat. The vessel is named after Will Mures grandmother Diana Hargrave-Wilson who officially launched the vessel. Diana is the mother of the late George Mure who was involved in the original concept and design work before his sudden passing in July last year.
"Diana" is a purpose built longliner specifically designed for the pink ling and blue eye trevalla fisheries off Tasmania. Equipped with a Caterpillar 3406E electronic main engine and two Caterpillar generator sets both with 100kva output and state of the art electronics with 3D mapping the vessel is all class.

There is a 20 tonne fish hold designed to maximise the quality of fish with a 600 bin storage system. With fish weighed and binned at sea the system minimises unloading times as well as ensuring that the landed product enhances Mures reputation as a quality producer and marketer of seafood. Minutes after the successful launch "Diana" is pictured

The Mustad longlining gear includes a 15,000 hook system with a computer controlled bait feed rate which is complemented by a 10 tonne bait freezer. Two icemakers each produce 2 tonnes of ice per day.
With four cabins and air conditioning through out this is one of the most sophisticated commercial fishing vessels in Australia.

Mures Fishing has seafood expertise in the catching, processing, wholesaling, retailing and restaurant business and "Diana" is set to actively join this famous seafood business when fit out is complete in early July 2004.
Our heartiest congratulations to Will Mure and Mure Fishing for their commitment and bold confidence in the future of our fishing industry in Tasmania.
Will Mure celebrates the launch of his new fishing vessel "Diana" with wife Judy and grandmother Diana Hargrave-Wilson after whom the vessel is named.
